Nazm: Jab Tum Hansti Ho...

I've been meaning to write a love song or a romantic Nazm since a lot of days and, I must confess, it is difficult to write one without a muse. To counter the lack of a muse, I was about to go on one (read yet another) random gorgeous-chick-adding spree on Facebook, save their photos in my laptop, create a Picasa album, take a printout of the size of a poster and hang it right in front of my shower -- for poetic inspiration. I'm sure with the help of multiple mind-blowing muses, if I wouldn't have been able to write a love song, I would've definitely written a song that would have become a chartbuster in orgies and group sex porn movies. I think I will do that next time.

So well anyway however whatever, here is my absolutely lame attempt at Love Poetry where I'm hopelessly trying to be a bit romantic. I wanted to write something much simpler, much Hindi-film-song like poetry, but I've ended up with a complete disaster. Women (the beautiful, promiscuous ones in particular) help me.

जब तुम हँसती हो ...

जब तुम हँसती हो कोई हूर नज़र आती हो।

लिबास पहन के सफ़ेद जब निकलती हो,
ऐसा लगता हैं बहता आबशार हो कोई;
गीली ज़ुल्फ़ों की महक ले के जब भी चलती हो,
ऐसा लगता हैं के बादे-बहार हो कोई;
रात ख्वाबों में बा-दस्तूर नज़र आती हो,
जब तुम हँसती हो कोई हूर नज़र आती हो।

तेरे तसव्वुरात के सिवा लिखा ना कुछ,
तुझपे लिखी हुई ग़ज़ल की क़सम खाता हूँ;
तुझसे नज़रे मिली तो फिर कभी देखा ना कुछ,
तेरी निगाह के काजल की क़सम खाता हूँ;
मेरी नज़्मो से और मशहूर नज़र आती हो,
जब तुम हँसती हो कोई हूर नज़र आती हो।

अपने ख्वाबों की ख़लाओं में जब तुझे देखू,
सियाह रात में माहताब निकल आते हैं;
सरे-आईने सवरते मैं जब तुझे देखू,
पसे-आईने आफ़ताब निकल आते हैं;
मेरी आँखों में बसा नूर नज़र आती हो,
जब तुम हँसती हो कोई हूर नज़र आती हो।

मायने -
आबशार - waterfall
बादे-बहार - breeze of spring
बा-दस्तूर - as a matter of tradition
तसव्वुरात - (pl.) imagination
ख़ला - celestial space
माहताब - Moon
आफ़ताब - Sun
सरे-आईने - front of the mirror
पसे-आईने - rear / reflection of the mirror

Jab tum hansti ho koi hoor nazar aati ho.

Libaas pahan ke safed jab nikalti ho,
Aisa lagta hain behta aabshaar ho koi
Geeli zulfon ki mahak le ke jab bhi chalti ho,
Aisa lagta hain ke baade-bahaar ho koi
Raat khwaabo mein baa-dastoor nazar aati ho
Jab tum hansti ho koi hoor nazar aati ho.

Tere tasavvuraat ke siva likha na kuch,
Tujhpe likhi hui ghazal ki kasam khaata hoon
Tujhse nazare mili to phir kabhi dekha na kuch,
Tere nigaah ke kaajal ki kasam khaata hoon
Meri nazmo se aur mashhoor nazar aati ho
Jab tum hansti ho koi hoor nazar aati ho.

Apne khwaabo ki khalaao mein jab tujhe dekhoo,
Siyaah raat mein maahtaab nikal aate hain,
Sare-aaeene savarte main jab tujhe dekhoo,
Pase-aaeene aaftaab nikal aate hain,
Meri aankhon mein basa noor nazar aati ho,
Jab tum hansti ho koi hoor nazar aati ho.
